  Quick Exercise Check List

Before you head out the door to walk, ride your bike, or play your favorite sport, check this list of things to do before you exercise.

 Check your blood sugar.

Blood sugar a little low? Have a snack.

Blood sugar really low? Treat yourself for hypoglycemia, then eat a snack. Wait until your blood sugar is normal and you feel better to exercise.

Blood sugar pretty high? Check for ketones.

Are your ketones moderate or high? Do Not Exercise! Treat your ketones as recommended by your doctor.

Pack a backpack or duffel bag with the following:

  • Glucose tablets, hard candy, or a juice box

  • Crackers & cheese, a sandwich, or some other healthy snack

  • Your blood glucose monitor and supplies

  • A big bottle of water (What about sports drinks?)

Make sure you're wearing an ID bracelet that says you have diabetes.

Drink a glass of water before you go.

Don't forget to bring your backpack!
