OVERVIEW
The American Diabetes Association invites you to attend a research symposium on inflammation, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. In addition to original research presented during poster sessions, this activity will focus on the emerging science and clinical implications in diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Presentations will highlight the role of inflammation in diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

This conference is being conducted through the American Diabetes Association-American College of Cardiology’s (ACC) Make the Link! Diabetes, Heart Disease and Stroke Initiative. It is supported, in part, by unrestricted educational grants from AstraZeneca LP, Bristol-Myers Squibb Co., Eli Lilly and Co., GlaxoSmithKline, Merck & Co., Inc. and Merck/Schering-Plough Pharmaceuticals, Monarch Pharmaceuticals and Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corp., and Pfizer Inc.

  • Summarize the latest research on the role of inflammation in diabetes and cardiovascular disease
  • Describe the pathophysiological mechanisms linking inflammation to insulin resistance
  • Assess recent research on environmental and genetic triggers of inflammation
  • Analyze data on effectiveness of lifestyle modification and pharmacological therapy on reducing inflammation
  • Interpret the clinical implications of inflammation in diabetes and cardiovascular disease
